This can be booked as a stand alone workshop or combined with Part Two.
This is the first of two very practical & informative workshops with Marguerite Hughes to provide you with the absolute essentials every gardener needs to know whether you are a complete beginner or a keen gardener.
This workshop will explain & illustrate the different categories of plants, what they need & their habit & growth characteristics. It will include explanations of terms you will come across such as herbaceous, half hardy, semi-evergreen etc. There will be lots of hints & tips on understanding your garden site & making the most of it including discovering your soil type, how to improve it & why garden aspect & site conditions matter. There will be guidance & recommendations on essential tools & equipment.
Marguerite will also demystify garden terminology, Latin names & any other horticultural descriptions you want an explanation on. Plant hardiness classifications & plant requirements detailed on labels, books, publications etc will be explained & related to your garden.
The last 30 minutes of the session will allow for summary, round up & Q&A.
All you need to bring with you on the day is a notebook & pen. You will be given handouts relevant to the workshop to take home. There will be lots of opportunities during the day to handle materials referred to during the sessions. The workshop is very interactive and, at any point during the day, you can ask questions relating to your own gardens.
